Things to See & Do in Irving Texas

Irving is a city located east of Dallas and is part of the area known as the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. As of the 2010 census the population in the city was 216,290. This is more than double the population that was recorded in the 1990 census. Among the first master planned communities in the US is the Las Colinas area, which is also found here. The world’s largest equestrian sculpture, the Mustangs at Las Colinas, is also here.

For those who love the theatre and art scene, The Irving Arts Center is a great place to go to check out the latest gallery art shows. You can see year round exhibits and live musical performances in the theatres. There are two galleries and two theatre concert auditoriums located inside the Center.

The Heritage House is great for exploring the early roots of the city. It was built in 1912 and is one of the oldest homes in the area. The park which is located right outside the house features a historic train depot. Nearby there several other theater’s to check out all within walking distance.

There are a ton of great restaurants in the city that feature all different types of cuisine. From down home cooking to International flavor you can find it all in Irving. Angelo’s Spaghetti and Pizza House located on West Pioneer Drive is a must for those who love Italian food. The Blue Fire Grill on West Carpenter is famous for their down home Texas barbecue delights. If you’re into Japanese food the Blue Fish Japanese Restaurant on West Carpenter is a solid choice.

Families with children enjoy public education from the Irving ISD. High schools in Irving include the Coppell High School, Nimitz High School, MacArthur High School, and Irving High School. Winfree Academy Public Charter School is located in the city as is the Quest School, a K-9 Honors Academy.

For those seeking higher education, the North Lake College and the University of Dallas are also housed in the city as well as the Devry University and the University of Phoenix.
